Turkey Hunts in Cedar Canyon

The Mickelson ranch is located in Western South Dakota with an ideal habitat for turkeys. Cedar Canyon is a natural wooded canyon that runs through the ranch and is home to a large number of Merriam turkeys. During the winter, much of the population can be seen gleaning grain from the livestock feed bunks, but in the spring of the year, they scatter into the canyon. Past hunters have enjoyed the challenge of calling them in and have harvested some very nice birds.

Our turkey hunt includes two days of hunting, lodging for two nights, and four meals. You may arrive at anytime during the day, but your first meal will be supper on the day you arrive. You will be shown to your room and plans will be made for the next day. There will be two meals the next day, usually consisting of a brunch after you have hunted for a while and supper in the evening after the hunt. The next morning you will have breakfast or brunch as your last meal, but you may hunt as long as you wish. If you have supper and spend the night, there will be an extra fee. Although you will be given some ideas about where to hunt, the hunt is an unguided hunt. The license from the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks www.sdgfp.info is your responsibility. We will help you determine which area to hunt and give tips on getting a license. (Hunters in our area have not had trouble getting tags in the past.)

The cost of the hunt is $600. 20% ($120) is required as a non-refundable deposit to reserve a hunting date. To reserve a hunt, call Della Rae at 605-748-2443 to establish the availability of the date you desire. Once that has been done, mail the registration form with your information along with the deposit to reserve your hunt.

Mule Deer or White Tail Deer $1,500 - Includes 2 meals per day and lodging for 3 nights for one hunter. Additional days can be arranged at the rate of $100/day/person.  Fun 20 minute video from one of our hunters.

Antelope $1,200 - Includes 2 meals per day and lodging for 3 nights for one hunter. Additional days can be arranged at the rate of $100/day/person.

Prairie Turkey $600 - Includes 2 meals per day and lodging for 2 nights for one hunter. Additional days can be arranged at the rate of $100/day/hunter.

Prairie Dog Hunting- $200/person/day
